In mid 2010, rainfall from earlier in the year reached Lake Eyre via both the Warburton and Coopers creeks. Lake Eyre North presents a spectacular sight from the air, with the sky reflecting in the water and the shoreline carved by creeks and crusted in salt. Click on thumbnails to see a larger version.

With floodwaters still moving in from the north and recent local rain, the sand dunes around Lake Eyre have come to life.

Mark (from Capella Lodge) recommended that we take a pre-sunset walk from the lodge down to Little Island to see the Providence Petrels – it isn’t far and you’ll be back in time for pre-dinner drinks. On a recent trip to Ireland, I spent a couple of days in Co. Galway around Clifden and the Connemara region.

Early in 2010 I had the opportunity to visit Christmas Island and experience the end of the annual red crab migration, wonderful bird life and incredible diving.

We took a few days off for a well earned rest at Kangaroo Island and the magnificent Southern Ocean Lodge. We were treated to some spectacular views as the Southern Ocean was at its winter’s best, throwing all it had at the coastline.
